Homemade applesauce flavored with cinnamon and maple syrup, layered with greek yogurt and granola. A delicious seasonal & healthy breakfast, snack or dessert.
Clearly my love for Greek Yogurt and fruit runs deep, given that I’ve posted a few recipes with these ingredients ? (here and here) So what makes this recipe different from the others? Firstly, this one isn’t frozen and secondly, it has homemade applesauce in it! Say WHAT!! Okay, so at my house we get a little excited over it, but I’m telling you, you will never buy that watery sugary store brand applesauce ever again.
No, seriously…you won’t.
All you need are apples (duh), maple syrup, cinnamon, a little lemon juice and water. You boil all that goodness, mash it up and you have some bomb-diggity applesauce. Now layer that in a bowl or mason jar if you’re a hipster like me, with greek yogurt and granola. Breakfast, dessert or a snack, you need these applesauce greek yogurt parfaits in your life.
You can definitely eat this applesauce on its own, mixed in a bowl of oats OR if you’re like my Mr…in mashed potatoes. It’s a thing that I never knew was a thing, until I met him. Maybe it’s just his thing, but he loves it and someone out there might too. Give it a try if you know what’s good for ya! His words, not mine.

Homemade applesauce layered with greek yogurt and granola, makes for a deliciously seasonal breakfast, snack or dessert!
- Prep Time: 15
- Cook Time: 30
- Total Time: 45
Ingredients
For the Applesauce
- 6 large apples, cored, peeled and diced (I used Lobo apples)
- Juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1 tbsp maple syrup, or more to taste
- 3/4 tsp cinnamon, or more to taste
- 1/2 cup water
For the Parfaits
- 4 cups plain greek yogurt, or vanilla
- 1/2 cup granola, or other nuts of choice
Instructions
- For the applesauce, combine all ingredients in a medium saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, covered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the lid and simmer for an additional 10 minutes or so, until the apples are tender and can be easily mashed. Add a little more water if needed. Mash the apples until desired texture, or puree in a blender or food processor for a smoother sauce. Feel free to add more syrup or cinnamon to taste. Chill.
- Layer yogurt, applesauce, and granola in a bowl or mason jar.
Notes
- For the applesauce, I used Lobo apples, but you can use any kind. The firmer the apples, the more time it will need to simmer on the stove.
- Applesauce stored in a mason jar will last about 7 days in the fridge.
Nutrition
- Serving Size: 4
