Spring skincare products that makes my skin happy…
Although it’s hard for us Montreal peeps to believe that Spring is tomorrow since we’ve been dumped on by a little snow storm and the freezing temps to go with it, but it’s still happening and I’m embracing it with a few updates to my skincare lineup. While there are some much-loved holy grail products that I’ve shared, I’ll also be sharing newly discovered beauties that are sure to stick around for a long time. Now, before I dive in and talk about all my Spring skincare faves, I thought it would be best to share with you a bit of a background on my skin so that you could get a better idea if these products would work for you as well.
I have very sensitive/acne-prone skin. A few years ago I had extremely bad cystic acne and although my skin is much happier now, I do still get the occasional cystic breakout around my jaw line and neck, and I also have a bit of damage to my skin from the bad years of breakouts. What completely changed my skin was finding the right products and changing my diet. I completely gave up on sodas and I was vegetarian for a year. My diet has since changed but I don’t consume as much meat as I use to and water is my absolutely best friend.
Cleansers, serums, and creams…
My priority for just about any skincare product is that they are all great for sensitive skin and all of these are just that! Fresh Soy Face Cleanser is a long time favorite of mine, also the number one product I recommend to everyone. This cleanser is truly dedicated to babes with sensitive skin. It’s very gentle and removes makeup effortlessly, without stripping my skin’s natural oils. I used to use this both morning and night, but since I’ve discovered Dr Hauschka’s Cleansing Milk, I now only use it at night. This is the first time that I have ever used a cleansing milk that actually leaves my skin feeling clean and moisturized rather than a greasy/oily mess. Although you can use this to remove makeup, I’ve stuck to using it in the morning only. It leaves such a beautiful glow to the skin and I’d say that’s pretty fab way to start your day. And lastly, for a little exfoliation, Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Face Exfoliant is my newly discovered gem! Most exfoliants can be very irritating and although this product is catered for normal to oily skin, this has been nothing but amazing for my skin. I only use about a dime-sized amount twice a week and I’ve noticed it helps clear up my breakouts.
Serums and toners have been absolutely life changing! I never realized how amazing they are for my skin until I found the right ones. OLEHENRIKSEN Truth Serum is an anti aging serum with vitamin C and collagen that brightens and hydrates your skin. I can’t get enough of this beauty! After a few uses, I could feel and see a few changes in my skin. It absorbs quickly and leaves my skin feeling soft but matte enough to add other products like moisturizer and makeup. My skin is brighter and more even-toned and doesn’t get oily throughout the day. I alternate between the Truth Serum and ORIGINS Renewal Serum with Willowherb. I don’t know if it’s the combination of the two, but the damage/dark spots on my skin from my cystic acne have faded and my pores are noticeably smaller.
Glowing skin is where it’s at…
Another long time favorite is ORIGINS GinZing Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturizer. I instantly fell in love with its gel consistency and citrus scent— Giving a refreshing cooling sensation when applied. Lightweight and absorbs nicely into the skin. It’s a great base for foundation without making my skin oily. Another newly discovered fave is OLEHENRIKSEN Banana Bright Eye Cream! I’m a mama who doesn’t always get the best nights of sleep and when I bring my little dude to school in the morning, I want to look less “mombie” and more “hey! I totally got this!”. I don’t have bad dark circles under my eyes but you can’t go wrong with brightening up your eye area. It’s hydrating and makes your under eyes smooth, making it an amazing base for concealer. *Especially if your concealer tends to crease.
Last but certainly not least…Masks! Now, I wanted to save these last two beauties for an evening pamper post, but they are just too good to wait. Dr Hauschka Clarifying Clay Mask is very different from other clay masks I’ve used in the past. It’s actually in powder form and you have to mix it with water. Admittedly, this is a little messier and requires more effort, but the results are worth it! As soon as I started using it, my skin cleared up so quickly. On average I use it once a week, but on weeks where my skin isn’t happy (aka Aunt Flow visiting,) I’ll use it twice. In between uses, I also love Fresh Rose Face Mask! This mask is gentle enough to use everyday and it’s perfect for all skin types. The rose scent is absolutely divine and it leaves my skin feeling soft and plump.
I’ve gushed enough, right?
My Spring skincare lineup is looking pretty spiffy, wouldn’t you say?! The only thing missing is a good SPF. I haven’t found one for my face that isn’t greasy or that doesn’t leave a white cast. Please send me your recommendations and I’d love to know if you’d tried any of these products before! 🙂
