Spreading blue rainbows of kindness all during the month of April for Autism Awareness Month!
April is Autism Awareness Month, which is dedicated to spreading awareness, of course, but also increasing inclusion and to assure that each person with Autism Spectrum Disorder is provided with equal opportunities to achieve the highest possible quality of life.
You know the saying, once you’ve met a person with autism, you’ve met ONE person with autism? That statement couldn’t be more true. Autism looks different for every individual. It can come with challenges but also unique strengths.
We have a rad little (big) dude with ASD – Jude, a train-loving, constant fruit snacking, thrill-seeking, stuntman enthusiast, is an amazing 8-year-old boy! Here’s a little snippet of what Autism looks like for us…
Perfectionism: You better believe he will do everything with precision to make sure things are done properly!
Food: Anything green has got to go!
Sounds: Loud train sounds? Totally exciting! Vacuum? It’s a solid no. Toys crashing on the floor? Oooh yeah! Utensils hitting the plate? Not a good time.
Memory: Never forgets about his first iPad with the red case from when he was 2 years old and has a mental checklist of every item he owns.
Fearless: Did I mention he’s a stuntman enthusiast? Climbing, jumping, water, bees (lol), etc…
Banana Peel: Ok, he has one fear.
This partnership with Quartier DIX30 definitely hits close to home. We partnered with them last summer where we attended our first block party and had the chance to check out their Salon Bleu. It’s a space dedicated to autism families where they can have some quiet time and relax in a comforting environment. When Quartier DIX30 asked me to help spread the word about their initiative for Autism Awareness Month, I was more than excited to partner with them again!
During the month of April, Quartier DIX30 will be donating $2 to Autisme Montérégie for every blue rainbow shared. To take part, simply upload a photo of your blue rainbow to Instagram or Facebook. Tag your photo with #BeKindDIX30 or #BrillerEnBleu and share. Autisme Montérégie is a non-profit organization created in 2006. From activities to workshops and conferences, their mission is to improve the quality of life of individuals with autism and their families.
You may personally know someone with ASD or maybe you don’t, but this is a beautiful way of showing your love and support for some beautifully amazing people!
